The Diamond Tool industry is still in its infancy in India. But it is perhaps one of the most promising industries in the country's march on the road to progress. Till the early 1960's, there was no manufacturer of Diamond Tools in the country. Tools that were required had to be imported. In the mid 1960s, however, the picture began to change. Indigenous manufacture started in a small way.

The acceptance of indigenous Diamond Tools continuously increased and in the mid 1980s the growth graph took a steep curve upward, coinciding with the booming growth of the Stone Industry. Today there are nearly two hundred units manufacturing Diamond Tools scattered all over India, catering to all kinds of industry. The earliest use of the Diamond Tools was in the Engineering and Stone Industry and new avenues for use of Diamond Tools opened up in line with the technological development of Diamond Tools.

During this evolution, the Industrial Diamond Association of India was founded in July 1972, by like minded people with the principal objectives

  • To promote the use of Diamond Tools in various industries.
  • To identify themselves with the economic and industrial growth of the country.
  • To disseminate information on all matters concerning the application and use of Industrial Diamonds, Diamond Tools through demonstrations, seminars, and so on for the benefit of the manufacturers and users in the country.
  • To provide a common platform for fellow manufacturers to interact.
  • To safeguard the interests of the Diamond/CBN Tool Industry and those connected with it through effective communication with Government and other Authoritie

Since local laws, rules and regulations vary in different parts of Federal India, in 1992, a new "Southern Chapter" was added to the Parent Association, to take care of the interests of the Members belonging to Southern States of India.

During the past three decades of its existence, the Association has organised several International Conventions, Technical Seminars, Workshops and Exhibitions in order to disseminate information on all matters concerning the application of Diamond and CBN Tools.

As we enter the new millennium, the Association has decided to further its efforts in promoting useful, correct and latest technical information on the use and applications of Diamond Tools. In order to reach out to a wider audience, to geographically distant users, the use of the 'web' is now essential. With this aim in mind, the association is hosting its website that shall cater to the needs of a Diamond Tool user in which ever village of the world he may be in.
